I ’m not ordinarily a sentimental holiday guy , but since we had a baby this twelvemonth , I thought the “ Baby ’s First Christmas ” ornament made a honorable subject for this contest . I had been entail to act around with background signal layering in photoshop from a previous challenge , so I killed two birds with this shot . The ornament was hung from the pendent with our tree in the background , and I used PS to rub out the surly string it was hanging from . Canon T2i , 85 millimetre @f/1.8 , ISO 800 , 1/80s .

My favorite ornament changes its appearance every year . I ’ve incur a bunch of amazing old macaroni embellish my children have made , and I roll in the hay them . When I was younger , Hallmark introduced their first ornaments that plug in , light up , and make sound . And they started doing them with all manner of space vehicle . Given my affinity for quad change of location , I was gazump . For many years , I have collected many of them . Star Trek , Star Wars , and NASA are all represented on a specific tree made just for them . One matter I enjoy doing is sprain on the tree every Nox and pick up the voices of Spock , John Glenn , and Darth Vader sounding off simultaneously . For this exceptional photo , I choose to group together my 3 best-loved Star Trek ornament . While not flat from any one fit of a picture show , I was work for the ominous setup of Kirk and Picard standing by while a Klingon bird of prey looms over them , having just turned off its cloaking twist . I have intercourse Christmas so I was n’t sure which of the multitude of ornament I would choose . I took many pellet but I opted for this “ Irish angel ” that my mum made 30 or so years ago . We have lots of ornaments on the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , many store buy or receive as natural endowment but the most especial are the ornamentation hand-crafted by my kinsfolk . StarBrite Retro

This ornament is part of a set of 9 that attend just like it . A duet of years ago it was the first Christmas after my mother had passed out of the blue and I was n’t particularly in the vacation spirit . I was in a store that had all these StarBrite retro await ornaments and I became entranced by them as they prompt me of the ones we hang on our tree as baby — the sparkly glass , the glitter , the neat oval concave front — and all those memories came inundate back to me of Christmases preceding . I picked up the box seat and knew then it would be better to lionise her memory board alternatively of being maudlin and commemorate the dependable times we had as a family during the holiday she loved the most . They are now part of my own treasured collection . shoot with my Nikon D3000 , had the ISO set at 800 50 millimeter f/5.6 using my 18 - 55 mm lense .

Pretty bare shot . I ’m sure many will utilize bokeh , but I did n’t have any other estimation , so I did as well . As for the ornament itself , it ’s not so simple . It is actually hand - paint on the interior through a mess in the top of it . This style originated in China during the Qing Dynasty and no two ornaments are alike . Christmas Through the Lens

I recently take a Nikon F consistency and am in summons of locating original viewfinder for it , one of which is the waist horizontal surface finder . Although I am still awaiting delivery of this viewfinder I was capable to replicate the look by removing the received viewfinder . The ornament I photographed is a UK phone booth , this is one of my married woman and I ’s best-loved ornaments .
