Phoenix go on to admit the idea of smaller budget character work of a villain was his own idea .

Three or four class ago , I called my agent and said ‘ Why do n’t they desire to take one of these characters and just make a low budget film about it , a movie but a part study , and why not take one of the villains ? ’ And I thought , ‘ You ca n’t do the Joker , because , you screw , it ’s just you ca n’t do that fictional character , it ’s just been done . ’ So I was trying to reckon of other characters , and he state ‘ I ’ll set up a general encounter with Warner Bros. ’ And I state ‘ I ’m not gon na go , I ca n’t go to a oecumenical meeting . ’ So I entirely blank out about it , and so then I heard about this thought , I was like , ‘ Oh that ’s so exciting , that ’s the form of experience I want to have , with a movie ground on a comic grapheme . ’ I felt like you could get something on screen .
