Despite a mighty attempt to keep the Ten Commandments Killer storyline give out ( zzzz … ) , it ’s Lady Gaga ’s Countess who owns this show week after week . In “ Flicker , ” we got the Countess ’ complete origin story — and it ’s a doozy , dripping in sure-enough Hollywood glamour .

We finally know who turned the Countess : dumb - motion picture heartthrob Rudolph Valentino , played by Finn Whittrock , who also fiddle the late deceased Tristan . That explain why the Countess was so drawn to the cute - but - OMG - so - dumb , cock - haired male modeling , and maybe why she was so tempestuous at Liz Taylor for stealing her perfect lookalike swain . ( Liz is n’t in this episode at all ; no uncertainty that ’ll be a three-fold - take for the ages , when it happen . )
We all knew , especially after last week , that the Countess was an aim picture superstar back in the former days of Hollywood . Now we learn she did n’t on the button fail out of show biz , she just achieved a different kind of immortality beyond the silver blind , thanks to Valentino ( the forefather of her monster babe ? ) and his wife , Natacha ( Alexandra Daddario ) . But before stemma - suck go into the mental picture , they ’re just a veritable ol’ tercet , dancing erotic tangos and whatnot . The flapper ( not yet a blonde ! ) is devastated when she learns of Rudy ’s untimely end .
She happen to be at an opening party for the Hotel Cortez at the time , so that ’s how she meet March , who saves her from leaping out of a window in her grief .

So , reunify with her true love , she ’s all about that lamia life . But there ’s a bit of a wrinkle , since she married March when she suppose Rudy was dead . March seems to love her — as much as he ’s adequate to of loving anything — and she put up with him ( and his nonparallel - killing ways ) because he ’s rich and sometimes she like to take in . But before March does himself in to avoid seizure by the police ( which we see earlier this season ) he enviously kidnaps Rudy and Natacha and has them buried awake ( bury undead ? ) in the Cortez ’s hidden annex .
The Countess has no idea about any of this until Drake , in apparitional form ( apparently they have dinner party together once a calendar month ) , spill the beans in the present day . And now we know why , when two of Drake ’s contractors broke through a weirdly reenforce wall during renovations , they were pounced upon by a distich of dried beasties . ( Their third victim is Marcy the realtor , a holdover from season one , but they do n’t return to their full erotism until they feast on a troika of robust Australian hotel node . ) The Countess is horrified by and maybe a short panicked of this bombshell .
March is , of course , self-satisfied as all hell .
So that reunion should be interesting , to say the least , and we now have exponentially more vampires , young and sure-enough , running around Los Angeles than ever before .
Meanwhile , in the Less Interesting Other Storyline , there ’s John , who wangle being even more crazy than he really is so he can get put away into the same genial infirmary as the Ten Commandments defendant . But when he confronts the prisoner , it ’s a little girl — one of the Countess ’s Hotel Cortez - inhabit vampire child , apparently — who ’s accompanied the killer to each of his crime scenes . She offers him some cryptic insight and starts to lead him back to the hotel , before tossing herself in front of a bus before unveil the cause of death ’s indistinguishability .
At this detail , can the killer whale be anyone other than John himself ?
