It ’s a adept time to be Jefferson Pierce . Not only is the fictional character about to get in the springy military action realm thanks to the CW ’s Black Lightning TV show , one of the character ’s original Godhead is bringing him back in comic form too , give us another new take on one of DC ’s first major African American superheroes .
write by Tony Isabella — who created Pierce back in 1977 alongside artist Trevor Von Eeden — and with art from Clayton Henry , Black Lightning : Cold Dead Hands is a six - part miniseries that re - envisage Pierce as a young gentleman’s gentleman , single and without his two new daughter ( who in the cartoon strip eventually become superheroes themselves ) . What has n’t changed is that Pierce is still a teacher by Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , vigilante superhero by night , using his world power to keep his students safe beyond his schoolroom , crusade back against the sinister Tobias Whale — the same Graeco-Roman villainhe’ll face on video , too .
It ’s been a while since Black Lightning has had a really big moment in the spotlight at DC , so this is a pretty coolheaded move — even if a lot of it seems to be bear out of capitalise on interest in the CW show . But hey , if it mean we ’re mystify more fatal Lightning from one of the people who help make him 40 years ago , then that ’s a okay price to pay .

Black Lightning : Cold Dead Hands commence this November .
