“So proud of my man. So much hate when he took on this role,” Mendes, who has been in a relationship with Gosling since they met on the set of the 2012 movieThe Place Beyond the Pines, wrote in a caption to her post. “So many people trying to shame him for doing it.”
“Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars,” she added in her caption. “So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie 💕”

Mendes has been cheering Gosling on this awards season; she recentlyshared a GIF on Instagramof Gosling’shumorous reactionto winningbest songfor “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024Critics Choice Awardsfollowing the Jan. 14 ceremony.
“I LOVE HIM!!!!” Mendes wrote in a caption to that post.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is noBarbiemovie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius,” Gosling said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. He added that to say he’s disappointed Robbie and Gerwig were not nominated in their respective categories “would be an understatement.”

Gosling and Mendes played a couple with an infant son inThe Place Beyond the Pines. In real life, they share two children:Esmeralda, 9, andAmada, 7. Back in July 2023, Mendes wrote asweet tributeto Gosling on Instagram ahead ofBarbie’s release, calling him “the greatest actor I’ve ever worked with” as she shared still images of the couple from that movie.
