You consider the Iron Throne looks like this ? YOU KNOW NOTHING !
Game of Thrones creator , George R.R. Martin is blogging again , and this one is a doozy . Turns out the telling Iron Throne HBO created for the television series is but a pace run to the behemoth Martin originally envisioned . Martin penned a kind , but honest bank bill ( on his personal Livejournal ) explaining exactly where HBO catch it amiss :
The HBO crapper has become iconic . And well it might . It ’s a terrific design , and it has serve up the show very well . There are replica and paperweight of it in three dissimilar size of it . Everyone know it . I get laid it . I have all those replicas decent here , sit on my ledge .
And yet , and yet … it ’s still not correct . It ’s not the Iron Throne I see when I ’m working on THE WINDS OF WINTER . It ’s not the Iron crapper I desire my lector to see . The way the throne is key out in the Good Book … HUGE , hulking , black and distorted , with the steep iron stair in front , the high rear end from which the king looks DOWN on everyone in the lawcourt … my potty is a hunched beast looming over the throne room , ugly and assymetric …
The HBO throne is none of those thing . It ’s big , yes , but not about as big as the one discover in the novel . And for good reason . We have a huge stool room set in Belfast , but not closely huge enough to carry the Iron Throne as I painted it . For that we ’d need something much self-aggrandizing , more like the interior of St. Paul ’s Cathedral or Westminster Abbey , and no band has that much room . The Book Version of the Iron Throne would not even meet through the threshold of the Paint Hall .
Ok , ok so what does it look like ? Well according to the writer it looks on the button like THIS painting byMarc Simonetti .
This is the giant , lumber pot Martin always imagine . And we agree with him 100 % it ’s much more high-minded in shell but not hard-nosed in the slight for television shot . Ah well , it ’s still a lovely reading of a now classic image .
