Jessica Lange, Jim Parsons and Celia Keenan-Bolger Make a Move in Broadway’s Mother Play (Exclusive)

A trio of acclaimed, awarded actors are leadingPulitzer Prizewinner Paula Vogel’s newest play, and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at them in action!

Jessica Lange,Jim ParsonsandCelia Keenan-Bolgerare starring in Broadway’sMother Play — A Play in Five Evictions, which the Second Stage Theater production describes as “a bitingly funny and unflinchingly honest new play about the hold our family has over us and the surprises we find when we unpack the past.”

The actors get into character in a preview image PEOPLE can exclusively debut. Snapped in the back of a moving truck, Keenan-Bolger, 46, and Parsons, 50, strike a pose while standing behind a sitting, smoldering Lange, 74.

Set in 1962 just outside Washington, D.C., the play follows matriarch Phyllis (Lange) as she supervises her teenage children, Carl (Parsons) and Martha (Keenan-Bolger) amid their move into a new apartment.

Lange, Parsons and Keenan-Bolger are three of the most-decorated actors to tread the boards this season.

Throughout her nearly five decade career, Lange has been acclaimed as one of the greatest of her generation. She’s won two Academy Awards, three Emmys, five Golden Globes, a SAG Award and a Tony award — the latter for her performance in 2016Long Day’s Journey Into Night, her last Broadway credit. On film and television, she’s had memorable parts inBlue Sky,Frances,The Postman Always Rings Twice,Country,Cape Fear,Tootsie,Music Box, andSweet Dreams, as well asAmerican Horror Story,Grey Gardens,Feud: Bette and JoanandThe Politician.

Parsons is best known for playing Sheldon Cooper in the CBS sitcomThe Big Bang Theoryfrom 2007 to 2019, a project that earned him four Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. He also won a SAG Award for being a part of theHidden Figurescast. Parsons has starred on Broadway inAn Actor of God,Harvey,The Normal HeartandThe Boys in the Band —the latter two which won Tonys for best revival of a play. He’s go on to reprise his roles in both film adaptations.

Keenan-Bolger earned a Tony Award for playing Scout in the 2018 playTo Kill a Mockingbird.

She’s been a standout on Broadway over the years, in breakthrough performances inThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,Glass Menagerie,The Cherry Orchard,Peter and The StarcatcherandLes Misérables.She’s currently one of the SAG Award-nominated stars ofThe Gilded Age, and has been seen on screen inBull,Louie,The Good Wife,Nurse Jackie and Elementary(among others).
