Former PresidentJimmy Cartermade a second appearance outside his home this week to mourn his late wife of 77 years,Rosalynn Carter.
On Wednesday Jimmy, 99, attended an intimate funeral service in Plains, Georgia, limited to family and close friends. Jimmy wore a red lei, an apparent nod to the cherished time he and Rosalynn spent in Hawaii when Jimmy was in the Navy.

Jimmy has spent most of the year in hospice care at home, unable to see outside visitors. His appearance at Rosalynn’s star-studded tribute service in Atlanta on Tuesday allowed the public a rare glimpse of the nation’s 39th president.
At the Atlanta service, hewore a blanketbearing his and Rosalynn’s faces, and sat in the front row with two of his children on each side. Also in the front row were PresidentJoe Biden, former PresidentBill Clintonand every living U.S. first lady —Hillary Clinton,Laura Bush,Michelle Obama,Melania TrumpandJill Biden.

Rosalynn was married to Jimmy for nearly eight decades, and served as the nation’s barrier-breaking first lady during his White House tenure from 1977 to 1981. She was diagnosed with dementia in May, and entered hospice care two days before her death on Nov. 19 at the age of 96.

The memorial ceremonies for Rosalynn began on Monday with a wreath-laying at Georgia Southwestern State University’s Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex. The motorcade accompanying Rosalynn made stops at at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia, where past and current members of her Secret Service detail escorted the hearse.
The former first lady was then taken to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, where members of the public were invited to pay respects.
