Damon, 53, fielded a question fromStephen Colbertregarding areported upcomingJason Bournesequelduring his Tuesday appearance onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert. When Colbert, 59, asked Damon whether he has been prepping to reprise his leading role as former CIA assassin Jason Bourne, the actor denied knowing details of plans for a sixth installment in the franchise.
“No details have been given to me! There’s a great director named Edward Berger who directedAll Quiet on the Western Front. German director, he’s wonderful, and he said he had an idea,” Damon shared on the late-night show. “I would love to work with him - he’s working on it. I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing is - I hope it’s great and that we can do it.”
“At a certain point, someone’s gonna need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger,” he added after Colbert asked whether Damon could guarantee the project gets made.

Damon returned to the role for 2016’sJason Bourne, but in 2012,Jeremy RennerandEdward Nortonstarred in 2012’sThe Bourne Legacy, a spinoff of the series that followed Renner’s own spy character Aaron Cross.
Deadlinereported in November that Universal Pictures was in the early stages of developing another sequel in the action franchise, with filmmaker Berger attached to direct the project.
Casting for the movie had not yet begun at that time, per the outlet.

For now, the actor has several new movies in development or releasing this year. Damon next appears inDrive Away Dolls, in theaters Feb. 23; he also lends his voice to a part inJohn Krasinski’s upcoming movieIF, in theaters May 17.
