In the book, the “Fat Lip” singer will take fans back to his early years growing up in Canada in a single-parent household. Whibley, who grew up in what he calls “difficult circumstances,” found solace in punk music and the songwriting ofKurt Cobain, which would eventually lead him to form Sum 41 in 1996.

Whibley will also share a more personal side on the page. He will “go deep” into his four-year marriage with musicianAvril Lavigne(their divorce was finalized in 2010) and discuss “traumas and triumphs” involving figures within the music industry that he’s previously never disclosed.Whibleyspoke with PEOPLEin 2016 about his sobriety, and how music, as well as his wifeAriana Cooper, helped him throughout his journey.

“There’s a lot of things that are the same, and there are a lot of things that are different,” he said at the time. “The lifestyle on the road is completely different from what it was before: for all of us, not just myself.”

Whibley’s memoir announcement comes nearly a year after Sum 41announced their disbandmentin May 2023 on social media. The band’s eighth and final album,Heaven :x: Hell,will be released on March 29 via Rise Records. The U.S. leg of Sum 41’sfinal worldwide tourwill kick off in Omaha, Nebraska in April.
